Kindercore party rockers Ruby Isle have been busy REMAKING all of Elbow.ws' weekly #1s. Everyone from Animal Collective to Fleet Foxes have gotten the treatment. Here is one of their own tracks (think Cheap Trick Surrender)

I like this better than her last single. The Cure's Close to Me samples + Lady Sovereign's own catchy repetitive vocals make this a sure fire sing along bomb. Here is the official video.

M Ward makes some seriously witty soul ridden blues (think Bright Eyes). His newest album, Hold Time, builds on his already impressive catalog. So the only question now is "Will SNL pick him up as a musical guest in 2009?"

La Roux (French for 'red-haired one') consists of duo Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid. Their first single, Quicksand, was glorious and it seems In For The Kill is going to eclipse it completely. Although the original is begging for a remix. And here it is, Skreams Let's Get Ravey Mix, part acapella part dubstep and dnb to finish. fantastic. Heres the official video.

Florence Welch, is gonna have a great year. Her indie/soul sound has garnered alot of praise. She just won the Critics Choice Award at The Brit Awards and the BBC has listed her on their "Sound of 2009" (or the top 5 acts that will own 2009 - namely florence, little boots, empire of the sun, la roux, & white lies). good company indeed. Heres the official video.
her album drops July 6.

Vocal house is a guilty pleasure of mine: Lisa Millet, Barbara Tucker, Katherine Ellis, Inaya Day, etc. I just can't get enough. The mood struck me again this evening before heading out to DJ at the club. Here are a few of my latest favorites I put in this 30 minute mix:
1. Intrellazi and Provera - Be Free - Cube Guys Remix
2. ATFC ft. Rae - Giv Me Luv - ATFC's Abyssal Plain Mix
3. Dirty South - Let It Go - ATFC Remix
4. Santito ft. Shena - Can't Take My Hands off You - Dub Mix
5. Damien Carter & Damien Heck - Glacier In The Sun - Dub Mix
Vocals, vocals, vocals.

I'd like to make a prediction: 2009 will be The Year Remixes Jumped the Shark. I'm not a huge fan of broad generalizations, although I can say without flinching that all Scottish people are cheap (hey, relax, some of my best friends are Scottish), but is every big single really in need of a dozen or so mediocre mulligans? Let's try to limit them to two per track: an interesting do-over and an obligatory club banger, OK? OK.
Disco-levelers and remixers-extraordinaire (Empire of the Sun, PNAU) give Anoraak single Nightdrive With You the business and the results are nice.

2008 was the year Australian bands dominated the increasingly visible indie scene with their sun-drenched 80s synth-pop gems or as I like to call it, "The Year Australia Cheated". Acts like The Presets, Van She, Muscles, Knightlife, Midnight Juggernauts and of course, Cut Copy were not just releasing killer tracks, they were also remixing each others' songs at an alarming pace. Australia gets cross promotion.
Sands of Time became available this past November as an "unreleased" song from 2008's nearly flawless In Ghost Colours.

Junior Boys are the best thing to come out of Hamilton since… they are the best thing to come out of Hamilton. Hazel is the first single from new release Begone Dull Care, which fans of the venerable National Film Board may recognize as a nod to animation pioneer Norman McLaren. While much of the new LP represents a more streamlined sound from the duo, Hazel remains true to their more familiar formula with shimmering melodies punctuated with synth blasts and the requisite vulnerability of Jeremy Greenspan's vocals.

Terrible name aside, Bag Raiders have been tearing things up recently, remixing for indie dance heavies Cut Copy and Midnight Juggernauts. "Shooting Stars" is a dancefloor burner complete with an ass-shakin' bassline, handclaps and an eleventh-hour drop that sounds like an exploding rainbow. Nice.
