Listen to song.
verdict
: fun. cutesy 50's sock-hop pop.

Wait 20 minutes, eat a bagel & repeat.
verdict:
the best damn thing I've heard all week!

Truthfully, I haven't listened to the rest of the new album yet. I'm gonna say its all great based solely upon hearing this first single (and the fact that PF gave the album an 8.3 and awarded it best new music).
There you have it. The album is called My Maudlin Career and thanks to some hard journalism and napless mornings, I can say with 75, maybe 60 but no less than 40 percent certainty that this album is not a dud.

the modern lovers

Here is the only thing I've been listening to for the last week...

Jonathan Richman's 1976 opus,
The Modern Lovers, has no followup. Literally! The keyboardist went on to create Talking Heads while the drummer formed the Cars!

my tiga story

04.13.2009

It was the fall of 2000 and yours truly was booked to DJ at this 3 stage outdoor rave (that's what they were calling 'em back then) at the Windsor, NS Fairgrounds. DJ Sneak was to headline while Tiga, XL, Mika and Rob Brown were all down from Montreal as support. Or so I thought.

On the afternoon of the big day, the local (and only) underground record store in Halifax gets a call from someone claiming to be DJ Sneak. Aparently he had NOT been booked for the event and was understandably pissed. Turns out the promoter was scammed (or was busted in a scam) and it begins to look like the entire party might indeed be a lie. This news sweeps though the entire Provence in a matter of hours (yes we did have internet at that time) leaving the entire east coast dance community in a state of "WFT?".

I showed up that evening around midnight expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised to discover a pretty good party going on. So I found my stage and quickly started drinking, er I mean playing. Towards the end of my set, as I'm laying down "the thunder", this douche taps me on the shoulder and says its his turn. I consult my watch (yup, we were still wearing them back then) and see that I have another 40 mins left to play. S
miling, I turn and politely ask him "to fuck right off and wait your turn". He shrugs his shoulders and sits down.

As I finish my set and take my ovations, we shake hands and I lean in asking, "whats your name anyway?". He smiles and says "Tiga". So long story short, to this day I have never played in Montreal.

Any who here is his newest creation and in my opinion, ipso facto your opinion, Beni serves up the tastiest mix...

YYYs managed to remain fabulous on SNL last night! The NY natives rocked the show and thus broke the musical guest curse (historically poor performances, er, i mean acoustics). Having never seen them in person, I gotta say, they are MUCH better live! This development now begs the question, "What the f* happened TVOTR?" ALSO "How **** HOT is that Karen O anyway?" I mean damn!

So South Park NAILED Kanye this week, going so far as to deliver a song parody all about him sexing up sea creatures. Turns out this tune is almost as big a classic as Uncle F*cker...

The National were in Toronto recently and yes I missed them. However, this discovery prompted me to reexamine their catalog. Which led to drinking (and more listening) and then this post. They are depressing and pretty and I goddamn wish I had read the paper earlier in the week. I hate the Koolhaus anyway. Sigh. No. No I don't.

Reportedly this remake was being played out everywhere in Miami this year. The beats are fantastic, the sample is jazzy (St Germain) and the sky's the limit for this anthem

Just finished listening to Annie Mac's fab new dance mix. Here is the hero tune of the set - I want to wake up with you by French act Das Glow. It sounds like "a 1970s TV theme remixed" or "warm feelings wrapped in hugs". ITS HUGE!

My computer died this morning. Realizing this, I smelled the air and I could feel that it was time. Time for a new beginning, And I knew that this was possible only through a cleansing fire (and a new power supply). It would all have to burn; all of it would dance in the warm mouth of my fire and a new, better, more wonderful pc would rise from the ashes like a phoenix. Behold the splendor of my beginning...
